Hafiz Naeem Announces Temporary Postponement of Long March

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced that the party’s long march has been temporarily postponed following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s request.

Speaking after consultations with the party leadership, Hafiz Naeem said the decision was taken as a goodwill gesture following the prime minister’s contact with the JI leadership.

He said the party had not withdrawn from its protest movement and that sit-ins and protest camps would continue.

Hafiz Naeem said the party would wait for the prime minister’s return and hold talks with him on providing relief to the public.

He said that if the government provided relief, the situation would be reviewed accordingly. However, if the government failed to provide relief or delayed action, JI would resume its long march in the first week of October.

The JI chief said the party would continue its public outreach campaign until the prime minister returned and met with its leadership.

He stressed that the party’s agenda was not to create disorder, conflict or confrontation, but to seek relief for the people.

Hafiz Naeem said JI workers would remain active and the party would continue its sit-ins and protest camps during the temporary postponement.
