Punjab Seeks Army, Rangers Deployment Ahead of PTI September 27 Long March

LAHORE: The Punjab government has sought the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Rangers in several districts ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s planned long march towards Islamabad on September 27, according to sources.

Sources said the Punjab Home Department has written to the federal government requesting the deployment of Rangers in Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali to maintain law and order amid the expected political activity.

The provincial government has also requested the deployment of Army personnel in Rawalpindi, according to the sources.

The deployment of the Army and Rangers has been sought until October 5, the sources said.

The request comes as authorities step up security arrangements in Punjab and the federal capital ahead of the PTI’s September 27 long march. Security preparations have also been intensified in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock, with additional police personnel being requested from other provinces.

The PTI has maintained that it will proceed with its planned march towards Islamabad on September 27. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said on Wednesday that the party would hold a peaceful demonstration and continue pursuing its demands through democratic means.

The Punjab government’s request for the deployment of federal security forces is aimed at strengthening security and maintaining public order during the period surrounding the planned political activity.
