China Has Significantly Reduced Support to Iran, US Treasury Secretary Claims

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has claimed that China has significantly reduced the support it provides to Iran, saying Tehran is facing growing economic pressure.

Speaking to Fox News, Bessent said he believed Iran had only around 15 million barrels of oil at sea and would likely deliver its final shipment of oil to China within the next two weeks.

“After that, they will have nothing left,” Bessent said.

The US Treasury secretary also claimed that Iran had proposed a peace agreement to the United States because it was feeling pressure.

Earlier, in a social media post, Bessent praised the United Kingdom, Türkiye, Oman and the United Arab Emirates for supporting sanctions against Iran.

He said Türkiye, the UAE and Oman had announced the suspension of Iranian airline flights to their countries.

Bessent also claimed that major commercial banks in the UAE and Türkiye had halted transactions with Iran.

According to Bessent, these measures were increasing pressure on the Iranian economy, while the Iranian rial had fallen to a record low.
