The Peshawar High Court has ordered the immediate release of 28 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Babar Sattar issued the order after hearing petitions filed by the detained workers.
During the hearing, lawyers told the court that the workers had been detained on October 12 without being given substantial reasons for their arrests. They argued that the detentions were unlawful and politically motivated, adding that the workers were not involved in any criminal activity.
The petitioners belonged to various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Karak, Tank, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Torghar, Bara and Orakzai.
The court directed the petitioners to submit affidavits undertaking that they would not engage in any anti-state activities in the future.
