Manchester City Reach $169M Agreement to Sign Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign midfielder Enzo Fernandez in a blockbuster $169 million transfer, according to multiple reports.

Sources told ESPN, The Athletic and the BBC on Tuesday that the two clubs have agreed on the deal, which would see Fernandez make the move from Stamford Bridge to Manchester.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 and has since become an important part of the club’s midfield. During the 2025-26 Premier League season, the Argentina international recorded 10 goals and four assists in 36 appearances.

The 25-year-old featured for 26 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Fulham on August 24 in London. He was then left out of the squad for the Carabao Cup win over Luton Town and did not feature in Sunday’s 4-3 league victory against Brighton.

Fernandez also played a key role for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, scoring twice in seven appearances.

If completed, the $169 million transfer fee would match the Premier League record. The current record was set last summer when Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for the same amount.

Manchester City have made a perfect start to their 2026-27 Premier League campaign, sitting at the top of the table with two wins from two matches.

The Sky Blues are scheduled to face Coventry in their third league match of the season at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday in Manchester.

Fernandez’s potential move would represent one of the biggest transfers in Premier League history and a major addition to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad.
