Emily Blunt Set to Receive Santa Barbara Film Festival’s Kirk Douglas Award

Award season is gaining momentum, and Emily Blunt is set to receive one of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s most prestigious honors.

The Academy Award-nominated actress will be presented with the 19th annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film at a special black-tie dinner in Santa Barbara on December 10, 2026.

The award, named after legendary actor Kirk Douglas, recognizes outstanding achievements in cinema and also supports the festival’s year-round educational programs.

Blunt has built a reputation for taking on a wide range of challenging roles across drama, comedy, action and blockbuster films. Her performances have earned her major industry recognition, including an Actor Award for her supporting performance in A Quiet Place and a Golden Globe for the British television drama Gideon’s Daughter.

Michael Douglas praised Blunt’s versatility and willingness to take creative risks, saying her range and authenticity reflect exactly what the Kirk Douglas Award was created to celebrate.

The honor comes at another major point in Blunt’s career. Earlier this year, she earned strong reviews for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s science-fiction film Disclosure Day, where she stars opposite Josh O’Connor.

In the film, Blunt plays Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City television meteorologist whose strange experiences lead her into an extraordinary effort to uncover evidence of extraterrestrial life. The role allows the actress to move between humor, fear, vulnerability and wonder.

Blunt previously received her first Academy Award nomination for portraying Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer. She also earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role opposite Dwayne Johnson in Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine.

Over the course of her career, Blunt has demonstrated her versatility in films including A Quiet Place, Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins Returns, Looper and The Devil Wears Prada.

Earlier this year, she also returned as Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada 2, reuniting with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci nearly two decades after the original film became a cultural favorite.

With another acclaimed performance and a major industry honor on the horizon, the Kirk Douglas Award adds yet another milestone to Blunt’s already impressive career.
