Pakistan Will Not Compromise on Protection of Haramain Sharifain: DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that protecting Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the two holy mosques is Pakistan’s top priority.

In an interview with Independent Arabia, he said Pakistan’s position on the protection of Haramain Sharifain was clear and unequivocal, adding that there could be no compromise on the matter.

Ahmed Sharif said escalating conflicts at any level would benefit no country. He stressed that further expansion of the military conflict in the Middle East was in no one’s interest and that negotiations were essential.

He said those uncomfortable with the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement were the ones criticising it. He added that the true value of any agreement could be judged by its outcomes.

The DG ISPR said relations among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye were based on mutual respect and trust.

He added that Pakistan’s message had already been conveyed through the country’s political leadership and Field Marshal.

According to Ahmed Sharif, the alliance’s collective defence mechanism would come into effect in the event of a military confrontation.

He said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye believed in promoting peace, stability and prosperity across the region.

The DG ISPR stressed that Muslims needed unity rather than conflict among themselves. He said the alliance was not directed against any country but aimed to promote regional peace, stability and security.
