Government Withdraws Review Petition Against Imran Khan’s Hospital Transfer

ISLAMABAD: A significant development has emerged in the case concerning the hospital transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, as the federal government has withdrawn its review petition challenging the decision related to his transfer to a hospital.

The matter came before the Supreme Court during a hearing concerning Imran Khan’s hospital transfer. During the proceedings, the government’s counsel informed the court that the government wanted to withdraw the review petition.

The Supreme Court allowed the government’s request, bringing the review proceedings to an end.

The review petition had been filed by the government in connection with the court’s earlier directions regarding the possible transfer of the PTI founder from prison to a hospital. The government had sought reconsideration of the court’s decision on the matter.

With the withdrawal of the petition, the government will no longer pursue the review proceedings before the Supreme Court.

The issue of Imran Khan’s health and possible hospitalisation has remained a subject of political and legal debate, with the PTI repeatedly seeking appropriate medical treatment and facilities for its founder.

The government, meanwhile, has maintained that medical decisions concerning prisoners are taken in accordance with applicable procedures and medical assessments.

The latest development is expected to have implications for the ongoing legal proceedings concerning Imran Khan’s medical treatment and possible hospital transfer.

The Supreme Court’s acceptance of the withdrawal means the review petition has been disposed of, while any further decision regarding the PTI founder’s medical care and hospitalisation will depend on the relevant authorities and medical assessments.

The development comes amid continued political and legal discussions surrounding Imran Khan’s health, treatment and conditions of detention.
