Islamabad :Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can be withdrawn if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is ready to take effective measures against terrorism.
Addressing the tragic anniversary of the October 18, 2007, Karsaz tragedy, Bilawal paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on the homecoming procession of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. He said the incident remains an unforgettable chapter in Pakistan’s democratic history and reflects the sacrifices made by PPP workers for democracy.
Bilawal said terrorism continues to pose a serious threat to Pakistan, with security forces, police and civilians sacrificing their lives in the fight against militants. He stressed that the country must remain united against terrorism and vowed that terrorists would not be allowed to undermine Pakistan’s security or remove the national flag from any part of the country.
Commenting on the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PPP chairman said the provincial leadership must take responsibility for confronting terrorism. He said the PPP would continue to support efforts to eliminate the threat and that emergency measures in the province had been introduced through constitutional and legal means to address the security situation.
Bilawal also said opposition parties had the right to criticise the government, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. However, he maintained that political differences should not prevent cooperation against terrorism. He urged the opposition to engage in dialogue if it wanted the emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be withdrawn.
He further criticised protest-based politics, describing it as an obstacle to national development at a time when Pakistan was facing a serious economic crisis. Bilawal called for political unity, stronger democratic institutions and a collective commitment to safeguarding the country’s security.
The PPP chairman reiterated that the fight against terrorism would continue and called on all political forces to work together to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty and stability
