Aiming for stars is easy, being consistent to reach them is the real challenge. Only a few people have the courage to achieve their dreams. But there are some, who accomplish their raison d’être despite being held back by life.
Nazia Khan, from Swat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was two years old when she was paralyzed in one leg for life by the poliovirus. But she did not give up and pursued her passion for serving other people who needed help.
Nazia, 33, has been interested in medicine since her childhood. Nazia made it the aim of her life and started working hard. She continued her struggle and today she is working as an emergency medical technician in Rescue 1122.
“Because I am disabled myself, I wanted to be able to serve people and not feel like I was disabled and work like ordinary people,” Nazia says.
After receiving her primary education in her area, she passed her BA from a degree college. To pursue her dream career, she earned a diploma in medicine and began working in medical help.
She has worked with Rescue 1122 in many emergencies, be it road traffic accidents, medical emergencies, fires or maternity. In addition to her professional skills, she is an expert in sewing, embroidery and cooking.
Encouraging other women to choose non-conventional professions, Nazia said that Rescue 1122 provides an opportunity to serve humanity and women should work in this field.
“I always wanted to study medicine. I myself have a physical disability so it became my passion to help others in need. Helping other people makes me forget of my own physical restraint.”
Nazia has been working in rescue 1122 for some time now but she has never let her disability stop her. She is always active at service like her other fellows. She mainly provides first aid to the injured ones and also medically examines patients at their homes.
During her service, Nazia has participated in emergencies like road accidents, medical urgencies and even firing incidents. She has never made an error in her services and is considered best at what she does.
