Have you heard about the Seed Queen of Palestine? No? Read this!

People usually, have this desire, to do something remarkable in life, something extraordinary, something out of the box for those around them. Yet, they spend their life waiting for some big opportunity, they keep seeking for life to give them a chance to do something, and this keeps them in the waiting list.

Then there are those, who do ordinary things in extraordinary ways, they do not wait for life to give them chances, rather they create them, they make sure their existence benefits someone, no matter how, they just put their effort and heart in doing this.

Similar is the story of a girl, known as the Seed Queen of Palestine. She is said to be leading a quiet revolution in the fields of West Bank, which is occupied by the Israeli forces. Vivien Sansour is doing something very thoughtful and very out of the usual. She is collecting and distributing ancient rare heirloom seeds, to the Palestinian farmers.

She has no big motives behind this act. She merely wants to revive the old and already forgotten Palestinian produce. She wants to relive her childhood, and bring back the taste of the delicious food she experienced as a child. She grows these seeds in her own garden along with other local herbs of the region. She wants to celebrate the food culture and Palestine specific cuisines in this hard time.

She aims to convince the farmers about the importance of this seed, and that of traditional crop growing techniques, but will she be able to do this in this tough time, especially under the intense pressure of Israeli occupation of the West Bank and difficult agribusiness conditions? But more important question seems to be, will she give up on her mission? And the answer to this question tends to be a stern No.

In order to achieve her aim, she sets up a traveling kitchen, wherever she goes. She takes along the seeds and the food that is made by using them, to remind her country people, of their culture and traditional cultural cuisines. She thinks she can make people find some joy by celebrating their culture and remind them of the place where they belong to, through this little yet spectacular act.

She has no weapons, no resources, no power, no army, yet, she is a revolutionary. Her act may seem insignificant to many, and insanity to others, but it was for such kind of people, Nietzsche said ‘And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music’
