Krishna Kumari Kohli—someone who fought against the odds

You might have not heard the name of Krishna Kohli, she was Pakistan`s first Hindu female senator from the Dalit caste who was chaired during the Senate session on International Women’s Day.
Krishna Kumari Kohli has a very inspiring story because of the battles against the odd she fought for education. Recently, Krishna took serious measures for young girls to study hard because she wants to see young and determined girls achieve better in their lives. Her journey to be a part of the Senate was not so easy.
A little background of Krishna Kumari

The journey of Krishna Kumari to the Senate was surely complex.

 

She belongs to a village Nagarparkar, near Tharparkar in 1979 when people were unable to receive basic facilities. During her childhood, Krishna battled poverty and hunger and was a victim of bonded labour. Krishna’s family was tied to bonded labour due to which she had to work tirelessly on the lands and fields of village landlords. It was her passion that enabled her to stay encouraged to battle the hardships and she planned to continue her education at a RUN-DOWN school in her village.
She stated in an interview “There was no electricity, so I used to study under the lantern light. ”
Krishna got married at the age of 15 and her immaturity was a great hindrance to her education, but she mentioned, “my husband and in-laws were extremely supportive and encouraged me to continue my education.”

Krishna got her master’s degree in 2013 in the subject of sociology from Sindh University. The lady actively participated against sexual Harassment at workplaces, bonded labour, women’s rights, and for the village people. Her goals were quite clear, especially when she was elected to the Senate.
She said, “I speak for the rights of women across the country and not only represent the Women of Thar.” Furthermore “Different laws are drafted for the women’s rights, and none of them are implemented that’s something I want to change.”

She was also in the 100 Women lists 2018 as the most influential and inspiring women worldwide.
