WASHINGTON ;The U.S. Mint began sales of a new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump’s image, commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The coin went on sale at noon Eastern Time on Wednesday through the U.S. Mint’s online storefront. Its release makes Trump only the second sitting president in U.S. history to appear on American currency, following Calvin Coolidge during the 1926 Sesquicentennial.
Designed by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, the obverse (“heads”) features a portrait of Trump based on an official White House photograph, inscribed with “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1776 ~ 2026”. The reverse (“tails”) depicts the Presidential Seal with an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, featuring the number “250” on its shield and the banner “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.

Despite its “golden dollar” finish, the coin contains no actual gold and is composed of a copper-alloy blend (including zinc, manganese, and nickel). The Mint is selling rolls of 25 coins for $61 and bags of 100 coins for $154.50, with household orders initially capped at two per product.

The Mint announced that 250,000 coins struck on July 4, 2026, feature a special “July 4th” privy mark and have been randomly mixed into the rolls and bags.

Federal law typically mandates that only deceased individuals may be depicted on U.S. coins. However, the Treasury Department authorized the release under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which allowed for special semiquincentennial coin designs in 2026.
