ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan spinners Tausif Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq have clashed publicly over the inclusion of all-rounder Shadab Khan in the Pakistan team.
The dispute began after Tausif questioned Shadab’s selection during a social media programme. Saqlain later responded on social media and challenged Tausif to make his alleged recording public.
Tausif Ahmed Questions Shadab’s Selection
Tausif Ahmed alleged that Saqlain Mushtaq was favouring his son-in-law, Shadab Khan.
“Saqlain Mushtaq cannot see anything beyond his son-in-law Shadab Khan,” Tausif said.
He also questioned the level of favouritism in the selection process.
“Favouritism should have a limit,” he said.
Tausif claimed that Saqlain had called him about the matter. He also alleged that Saqlain had asked another person to contact him.
According to Tausif, he has a recording of the conversation.
He also questioned how Shadab could return from outside the team and receive a contract.
Questions Over Sufiyan Muqeem
Tausif also raised questions about other players.
He mentioned Sufiyan Muqeem and asked why the young spinner was not being given the same consideration.
“If a player is not performing, favouring him is a great injustice,” Tausif said.
He also questioned the role of Pakistan captain Shan Masood in the matter.
Saqlain Challenges Tausif
Saqlain Mushtaq responded to the allegations through social media.
He challenged Tausif to release the alleged recording in public.
“Tausif Ahmed, if you have the recording, prove it and release it before the public,” Saqlain said.
Saqlain said he had called Tausif because he respected him as a senior.
He rejected Tausif’s allegations and accused him of presenting the matter incorrectly.
“Do not lie, hide facts or distort the matter,” Saqlain said.
Saqlain Says He Also Has a Record
Saqlain claimed that he also has a complete record of the conversation.
He challenged Tausif to release his recording first. Saqlain said he would then release his own record.
“Let the public hear the truth and know the reality themselves,” he said.
The public exchange has now raised questions about Shadab Khan’s selection, player performance and alleged favouritism in Pakistan cricket. However, the allegations made by both former players have not been independently verified.
