Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has challenged the federal government over its warnings regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned September 27 protest.
Addressing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Afridi questioned the government’s use of the phrase “once and for all” and asked what it meant in the context of PTI’s political movement.
Afridi said the “once and for all” decision should be left to the Pakistani people, adding that PTI would continue its political struggle.
He also challenged the federal government over threats of imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“You threaten us with governor’s rule. I challenge you to impose governor’s rule,” Afridi said.
Referring to the September 27 protest, the KP chief minister said PTI would remain peaceful and would continue its political struggle.
He said that if the government believed it could end the political movement through force, it should reconsider its approach.
Afridi also questioned whether raising a voice for justice was not part of the democratic process.
His remarks come as political tensions remain high between the federal government and PTI ahead of the party’s planned September 27 protest in Islamabad.
