ISLAMABAD: Petroleum product prices in Pakistan are likely to increase further, with preliminary estimates indicating an increase of up to Rs5.62 per litre for some products.
According to preliminary calculations, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) is expected to rise by around Rs5.62 per litre, while the price of petrol could increase by approximately Rs4.04 per litre.
The final prices are expected to be determined by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) later tonight. Following OGRA’s calculations, the Petroleum Division is expected to issue an official notification announcing the revised prices.
However, the estimated increases are not final and could change depending on adjustments in government taxes, petroleum levy and other components of the pricing formula.
The government can either increase or reduce the proposed prices before the final notification, depending on changes in taxation and other applicable charges.
If approved, the revised petroleum prices will come into effect for the next pricing period and will directly affect consumers across the country.
The expected increase comes amid fluctuations in international crude oil prices and changes in domestic petroleum pricing components.
Consumers are now awaiting the government’s final decision, which will determine the actual prices of petrol and diesel for the upcoming pricing period.
