Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye to Sign Trilateral Defence Pact, Sources Say

Riyadh/Islamabad: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye are expected to sign a trilateral defence agreement in Saudi Arabia on Friday, according to regional sources familiar with the development. The pact is expected to deepen military cooperation, strategic coordination and collective security among the three countries amid growing regional instability.
Sources say the agreement will build on existing bilateral defence ties and is expected to enhance intelligence sharing, joint military exercises, defence technology cooperation and broader strategic coordination. While the full text of the pact has not been made public, it is being described as a defensive framework intended to strengthen deterrence and regional stability rather than target any specific country.
The proposed arrangement is expected to combine Pakistan’s experienced military capabilities, Saudi Arabia’s strategic and economic influence, and Turkiye’s advanced defence industry to create a more coordinated regional security architecture. Officials familiar with the discussions say the framework is designed to improve collective preparedness against emerging security challenges.
Background: The trilateral pact follows the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025, under which both countries agreed to strengthen defence cooperation and joint deterrence, with the treaty stating that aggression against either country would be treated as aggression against both.
Why it matters: If finalized, the agreement would expand the existing Pakistan-Saudi security framework by bringing Turkiye into a formal strategic partnership, creating one of the region’s most significant defence groupings. Analysts say the move could reshape the regional security landscape by institutionalizing closer military coordination among three key regional powers.
