Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said the government will not back down from its position on reclaiming state land, stressing that no one will be given preferential treatment in the enforcement of the law.
Speaking to the media, Naqvi said government land in Islamabad had been occupied unlawfully and that the government had legally taken possession of the One Constitution Avenue property.
He said the government would try to convert One Constitution Avenue into a five-star hotel within the next few months, adding that Islamabad residents would soon have a five-star hotel.
Referring to the joint investigation team (JIT) report, the interior minister said payments would be made to those entitled to compensation according to the report.
Naqvi stressed that there would be no separate laws for the rich and the poor and that government land would be reclaimed at all costs, without concessions to anyone.
He said the government would also reclaim land in sectors E-12, C-14 and C-15, adding that all encroachments in Islamabad would be removed regardless of who owned or occupied the land.
The minister said the prime minister had fully supported the government’s action regarding One Constitution Avenue. He added that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman had carried out the operation and the government had supported him.
Naqvi also said land allocated for Safari Park had been reclaimed.
Speaking about the CDA’s staffing situation, he said the authority was facing a shortage of officers and needed personnel with relevant experience.
