LAHORE: Noreen Niazi, the sister of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been shifted from Kot Lakhpat Jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) after her health deteriorated in custody.
Rana Mudassar Umar, the lawyer for Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, confirmed on social media that Noreen Niazi was moved to the hospital due to health complaints, where various medical tests are being conducted. According to PTI sources, she is receiving treatment in a private room under the Structural Heart Disease department, while party leaders have accused authorities of a severe lack of adequate facilities inside Kot Lakhpat Jail.
PTI Expresses Deep Concern and Criticizes Punjab Government
In a statement issued by the central media department in Islamabad, the PTI expressed deep concern over the sudden illness of 70-year-old Noreen Niazi and her transfer to the hospital without informing her family.
PTI stated that keeping the family completely in the dark about her transfer to the hospital runs contrary to human empathy, transparency, and the basic rights of detained individuals.
The party demanded that Noreen Niazi be provided with top-tier medical facilities under the supervision of expert cardiologists, that necessary diagnostic tests be conducted without delay, and that accurate health updates be shared immediately with her family.
PTI urged authorities to grant the family immediate permission to visit her and check on her well-being.
The statement emphasized that putting elderly women at risk of health complications due to political differences is deeply inhumane. The state’s primary responsibility is to protect the life and health of detainees rather than subjecting their families to mental anguish.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has demanded that the Punjab government and relevant authorities immediately provide complete details regarding Noreen Niazi’s medical condition, ensure proper care, grant family visitation rights, and immediately end the alleged illegal detention of her and other innocent women. The party also appealed to the public and party workers to pray for her swift and complete recovery.
