ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has ordered that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan remain at a hospital until the next hearing of his case on September 16.
The court directed that Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment. The court also instructed the PTI not to turn the former prime minister’s treatment into a political activity.
The federal government objected to the hospital transfer order, with Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman telling the court that the government had not even been issued a notice in the case.
The Supreme Court, however, made the government’s objection part of its order.
PTI Gives Assurance Against Political Activity
PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja and Parliamentary Secretary Shahid Khattak assured the court that no political activity would be held outside the hospital.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan stressed that the hospital was also treating other patients and that they should not be disturbed.
“There should be no political activity outside the hospital,” Justice Afghan said.
He also directed that there should be no media talks or press conferences outside the hospital.
“The hospital has other patients as well,” Justice Afghan observed, stressing that they should not be affected by political activities or gatherings.
PTI to Bear Treatment Expenses
During the hearing, Justice Shahid Waheed asked who would bear the cost of Imran Khan’s treatment at the hospital.
PTI counsel Uzair Bhandari told the court that the party would bear the medical expenses itself.
The court subsequently adjourned further proceedings until September 16, with Imran Khan to remain at the hospital until the next hearing.
