UAE Suspends Green Pass System As The Contact Tracing App Alhosn Downs

Abu Dhabi has suspended the use of a green pass on the Alhosn app to enter all specified areas in the emirate. The decision came a day after the app crashed down across the country for many users on Thursday.

‘Green pass’ on the app was required to enter certain public spaces as of June 15, 2021. The country’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) said it is working on fixing the glitch in the app.

“The green pass will be reinstated after completing the app update and ensuring the continuity of the app service for all users,” the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office announced on Friday.

According to UAE officials, the crash was caused by a surge in new subscriptions. Abu Dhabi had implemented its green pass system that relies on the use of the app to enter shops, malls, events and other TB facilities.

As a substitute of the green pass, Abu Dhabi residents can show the approved text messages with PCR tests and vaccination records if they are facing difficulties with the app. Its validity, however, depends on one’s vaccination status.

UAE’s green pass system had just come into effect on June 15, requiring Abu Dhabi’s residents to use the Alhosn app to enter facilities with a large number of people. These places include shopping malls, supermarkets, gyms, hotels and facilities within public parks and beaches, swimming pools, entertainment centres, cinemas, museums and restaurants.

The Committee for Emergency Management, Crises and Disasters caused by the Covid Pandemic in Abu Dhabi appealed to the public to continue to adhere to preventive and precautionary measures, stressing that their safety is a top priority. It also expressed its appreciation to all members of society for their confidence and cooperation with all concerned authorities.

On Wednesday, the UAE capital announced it would trial new scanners to identify people infected with Covid-19.
