Transgender Who Was Denied PPSC Lectureship Moves LHC for Special Quota

The incumbent government is working swiftly towards the welfare and education of the transgender community. However, one area which requires its focus is equal opportunity for the trans community.

The government should treat them as normal persons and they should be allotted a special quota in government sector jobs. Though the government has introduced a law for transgender persons’ rights, the implementation of the law is still awaited.

On Wednesday, a transgender person approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking the allotment of a special quota for his community.

Faizullah, who was denied a post of Urdu lecturer just because he was transgender, has contended that the move was against the government’s order.

The plaintiff was told that PPSC did not allocate a quota for transgender persons, which according to the petition, is a violation of the basic rights rules.

Faizullah’s lawyer pleaded with the court to declare transgender persons eligible for appearing in PPSC exams. On the occasion, the judge directed to postpone the scheduled examinations of PPSC and sought a reply from the advocate general of Punjab within two weeks.

Last month, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had given a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to implement the Transgender Persons (protection of rights) Act 2018.

The ruling had come against a petition seeking the court’s order for the government to the implementation of the transgender persons’ rights law.

Deputy Attorney General had told the court (SHC) that the rules for the law had been hammered out and soon to be approved by the federal cabinet.
