Pakistani-Canadian entrepreneur Nitasha Syed’s web show is pushing a positive image of Pakistan. Since its premiere on YouTube on 16th January 2021, Shaam Ki Chai has highlighted the works of Pakistani expats and has also featured some prominent personalities from Pakistan.
In the midst of light-hearted conversations, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur has illuminated the applauded endeavors of Pakistanis abroad.
She largely highlights stories of South Asian women in STEM. From research and development to engineering these stories cast aside the stereotype of a docile Asian woman. The web series also featured men of Pakistani and Pakistani descent living in North America and making a mark in their respective fields.
“There are so many great people who work in the best organizations in the world. They’re all from the fields they’re passionate about and want to give something back to their community by working here. I feel proud,” said Nitasha.
In a way, the series highlights how women in the workplace have their own set of problems regardless of region. As a supporter of start-ups in the United States, Pakistan, and India, Nitasha has some special observations on ‘East vs. West’ when it comes to women’s empowerment.
“Because we are ethnic, from childhood we have the idea that working women are selfish. In the Western world, the workplace has its own issues of gender discrimination, from pay gaps to sexual assault. But it’s easy for women to make a career here because they don’t have that social responsibility,” she told The Blind Side.
