The two suspects involved in a gang-rape incident last month in Sheikhupura have been killed in an alleged police encounter in the Farooqabad area of the city.
The development occurred on Saturday, less than 24 hours after they managed to escape from the police custody.
As per police sources, the suspects opened fire at the police party when they were intercepted at the Awan Bhattian police check post. Both suspects, Junaid and Pervez were killed during an exchange of fire, it added.
Both suspects were arrested on January 21 in the Komal Masih gang-rape case and had escaped a day later.
A police official told the media that the suspects were being escorted back to the police station from the crime scene when their accomplices attacked the police van near Esher village of Sheikhpura, helping them to escape.
The rape incident was reported late in December when Gulzar Masih, the complainant, was returning home after attending a wedding ceremony with his family when some armed men stopped them near a Nullah.
They snatched the cash and valuables from the family and then took away his daughter at gunpoint. They allegedly raped the girl in the bushes and fled.
The DNA tests of the accused had confirmed rape charges.
