Saddened by Twitter trends on Human Rights Day

Excess of Everything is bad

Neelam Aslam- Journalist and Social Activist

Everybody is very local about freedom of Expression in all parts of the world and undoubtedly freedom of speech is the fundamental or birthright of every human being. Nobody has the right to deprive people of their basic right .
In my opinion, the definition of freedom of Expression is a right to speak freely and blatantly until and unless it is hurtful or humiliating for someone else. One should have no prerogative to mortify anyone on social media platforms.
I am deeply concerned about this privilege where one can abuse, hurt, or even assassinate someone’s character on different social media platforms. Everybody is distressed with this kind of liberty. It is dissipated and even against our cultural and religious teachings.

In such a dissolute environment if you are a public figure you are in double trouble. People think they have their birthright to malign you on social media platforms.
If I talk about myself I am not against free speech but this liberation must have morality. I am convinced it is high time to set certain rules or boundaries for all our social media platforms.

Look at these shameful Twitter trends of Pakistan, Pakistani Politics, and media cells of all political parties are using derogatory remarks or trends against each other on Twitter. They are adding fuel to the fire and worsening the situation and the worst part is here again they are insulting women and abusing them. What a shame for all these political workers.

Their leaders should come forward against this misuse of freedom and should stop their mouthpieces too before it’s too late because this fire can burn everyone and everything it would be the death of the nation’s ethics and values.
