A Muslim girl clad in Hijab vrooming her bike in style on the roads is a sight you don’t see everyday. Roshni Misbah is one such supergirl who has become an internet sensation for her dashing biking skills.
27-year-old Roshni is an extraordinary biker from Delhi, India who comes from a family of Islamic scholars and ‘Hafizs.’ She herself is a graduate of Arab and Islamic culture from Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University. Riding her bike wearing a black leather jacket, jeans, high heel boots and a hijab on the head, Roshni has shattered all the stereotypes of a typical Muslim girl.
Roshani first rode a motorcycle when she was in ninth grade. Back then she didn’t know how to ride a bike but one thing she was sure about was that’s what she wanted to do with her life.
“When I started going to university, I told my father that I needed a motorcycle to go. Mh father just asked if I really needed a motorcycle. I said yes and Dad and I bought Avenger,” Roshni recalls.
Roshni sold her first Avenger motorcycle in just five months and bought a sports motorcycle of her choice. She upgraded to superbikes in no time. Today, not only she is a bike rider in Hijab, she also runs a motorcycle business of her own.
Roshni says she was inspired by her dad, who is also a bike enthusiast. When some people objected on her lifestyle and said things like “the girl rides a bike, how will she get married?” her father shut them up saying “I’ll find a superbiker for my daughter.”
Roshni has emerged as an example for the societies of both India and Pakistan. Now she wants to travel all over the world on her motorcycle. She has two younger sisters, who are now learning to ride motorcycles just like her.
Misbah has so far ridden more than 100 motorcycles, and she is the only woman in India to run a superbike store. She credits her success to the support she got from her friends and family.
