Miss Universe 2017 Breaks Into Tears While Sharing Experience of Her Kidnapping

Demi-Leigh Tebow, the beauty queen who was crowned Miss Universe 2017, broke down into tears while sharing her experience of being nearly kidnapped. Demi was robbed and held at the gun by 5 armed men in a broad daylight.

The 26-year-old South African model recalled the incident in an emotional video interview. The incident happened in 2017, just months after she was crowned Miss South Africa, when five armed men suddenly stopped her at a traffic light and attempted to kidnap her.

“I didn’t know exactly what they wanted from me, but I knew it wasn’t good. I put up my hands. I surrendered, I gave them everything they needed, she shared.

According to Demi, the moment she tried running away, one of the armed kidnappers pushed her back into the car, yelling, “Get in, you’re going with us.”

But instead of being bullied into abduction, the model, 22 at that time, punched the guy as hard as she could in his throat. Her bold act worked in her favor and it gave Demi a split second to run away.

“At that moment, I said no I’m not going with you. I don’t care if you shoot me, if you kill me but I’m not going with you,” she recalled.

Demi’s story gets darker from here as she was refused helped from nealry 40 cars when she was running on a busy road to save her life. To her complete shock, no one bothered to stop for her and instead everyone rolled their car windows up.

“I don’t know what was more terrifying, being attacked by these five armed men or not getting any help,” Demi said.

Yet again Demi decided not to give up and continued running, knocking on windows until a teenager pulled over, let her into her car and drove her to safety. Tebow noted that she doesn’t know what would have happened to her if it had not been for the help of that 19-year-old girl.

Demi is now working to raise awareness of human trafficking after she was almost abducted herself. She maintains that her experience is the reason she is “so passionate about giving women all over the world a voice, and an opportunity to reach out for help.”
