Karachi Man Who Became Disabled In a Robbery Abandoned to Live In Misery

Mobile snatching, armed robberies and street crimes are things that almost every citizen of Karachi has suffered from. The grief of the citizens who lose their valuables in the street crime incidents fades with time but the families of the people who lose their lives are never-ending. But no one suffers more than people with disabilities who are not dead but are buried alive in the chest of misery.

Aziz-ur-Rehman, 37, is one of such helpless victims. He is a resident of Mehran Town, adjacent to the Korangi Industrial Area, in Karachi. He was posted as a guard at the multinational SGS Laboratories by a security company called Falcons Security.

On February 10, 2016, when the company cashier came out of the bank with money, the robbers stormed in and shot Aziz-ur-Rehman who tried to prevent the robbery.

The bullet struck Aziz-ur-Rehman in the spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed for life. Those few moments of duty turned Aziz’s life upside down forever.

Aziz-ur-Rehman has two children who were studying but now due to loss of employment and disability, they are out of school. Not only did he lose his job, but the private house was given to Aziz-ur-Rehman by his parents also had to be sold off too.

Aziz-ur-Rehman is entitled to a stipend from his security company and SGS, but this money hardly covers his medical bills. Soon after the incident, his wife left him due to poor living conditions and financial difficulties.

Aziz-ur-Rehman has been suffering from disability for four years now and his financial conditions are worse than ever.

“I am an honest citizen of Karachi. I have been appealing for years but no one in the government has listened to me yet. The dacoits disabled me for life and on the other hand, the government does not pay attention to my misery,” said Aziz.

Aziz-ur-Rehman has requested the authorities to have mercy on his children and provide them financial support. He is living a very troubled life. Previously, he made appeals to the government of Sindh but The Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah did not consider his request.
