Karachi Cop Arrests Thief After Befriending Him On the Phone

Meet Sharafat Khan, the SHO of Karachi’s Pirabad police station and an expert of covert operations against dangerous criminals. She is making headlines nowadays after apprehending a burglar who had robbed 4.4 tolas of gold from a house in Pirabad.

Sharafat, a dutiful and attentive officer, quickly swung into action after receiving a complaint from a citizen named Tameez Khan on November 30.

She managed to acquire the robber’s phone number through one of her sources and befriended him. She established herself as a poor, helpless teenager and somehow convinced the culprit to help her.

“I rang him up and pretended to be a teenage girl who needed his help. After winning his trust, I requested him to meet me at a restaurant near Shahrae Faisal,” the SHO said on SamaaTV on Friday.

She continued playing the character after reaching there and asked him to come quickly, as people were staring at her.

Come quickly, I feel awkward.

The thief took the bait and arrived at the restaurant. A burqa-clad Sharafat continued speaking to him, wearing a face mask to conceal her identity.

Having him engaged, the SHO then signaled her team to make the arrest. During the investigation, he confessed to having sold the gold for Rs. 230,000.

Police then recovered cash and a mobile phone from his possession of the arrested robber. His accomplice was also nabbed on his tip-off.

This wasn’t my first undercover operation, told Sharafat on TV.

I have arrested many criminals in the past by posing as a doctor or social activist.
