New Yorkers are being provided an unusual incentive to get immunized. People were being given marijuana joints upon getting vaccinated.
Weed activists organized ‘Joints for Jabs’ to promote ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drives in the state.
The ‘herb’ was recently legalized in the state of New York, which explains the eagerness to normalize doobies in public.
These activists thought to hand people joints in Manhattan if they could provide proof of getting at least one vaccine shot. People presented their vaccination card, on paper or via phone, and gave their email address to get a joint.
“This is the first time we can sit around and legally hand people joints,” said Michael O’Malley, one of the organizers of the ‘Joints for Jabs’.
The objective isn’t just encouraging immunization against COVID-19, it’s also pushing for federal legalization of cannabis.
“We’re supporting the federal effort to roll out vaccinations. And we’re also trying to get them to federally legalize weed,” said Micheal O’Malley.
AFP reports ‘Joints for Jabs’ was organized on 20th April to mark 4/20 an annual day of celebration amongst cannabis fans.
Similar events took place in the American capital, Washington DC. Marijuana activists also handed out free joints in the federal capital.
Several US brands are also incentivizing immunization. Particularly with food and drink such as donuts hot dogs and beer. It’s not just free weed that is loosening people up to vaccination.
