India’s Anju converts to Islam, weds Nasrullah

In an intriguing turn of events, Anju, a 35-year-old Indian lady from Kailor, Uttar Pradesh, crossed national lines to join her sweetheart, Nasrullah. At just 29, Nasrullah resides in Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Their romance started on Facebook and has since navigated the twists and turns of a long-distance relationship.

In the aftermath of her arrival, Mushtaq Khan, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Upper Dir, swung by Nasrullah’s residence to authenticate the unusual incident. Emerging from his visit, Khan reassured reporters that Anju’s voyage was backed by proper legal paperwork.

According to the DPO, Anju has found a warm embrace in her new abode. The local folks, appreciating the rare novelty, have extended a hospitable welcome complete with presents.

“Anju is the recipient of the local’s benevolence and is relishing her stay,” Khan reported. “Anju undertook the journey from New Delhi to Pakistan propelled by love and she’s contentedly living her life here,” he elaborated.

Khan also disclosed Anju’s past marital status, mentioning she has divorced her husband back in India. He added, however, that she wishes to remain distanced from the media limelight.

Anju’s love tale with Nasrullah blossomed over three years ago on Facebook. It evolved into a deep-rooted affection which nudged her towards Pakistan. Consumed by love and a longing to be with Nasrullah, she made the drastic decision to abandon her home country. With a visit visa in hand, she embarked on the journey to Upper Dir, leaving behind familiar terrains for the sake of love.

Meanwhile, Anju’s first husband (from India), Arvind has thrown more light on the unfolding love saga. Anju, a mother of two and a 10th-grade school graduate, hails from Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, where she lived with Arvind and their children. The revelation comes in the wake of another cross-border journey, with a Pakistani woman, Seema, trekking across to India.

Anju embraced Christianity from her original faith to marry Arvind. However, her recent actions point towards a journey of a different kind, one fueled by love and propelled by a longing for someone across the border.

As part of her aspirations to secure a job outside India, Anju had acquired a passport in 2020. A recent domestic trip to Jaipur, however, took an unexpected detour. Arvind found out from a phone call on Sunday that she had crossed borders, and was in Lahore, Pakistan, promising to return soon.

As the story unfolded, Arvind came to know that Anju had proceeded further to Upper Dir to reunite with Nasrullah, a man she’d befriended on Facebook a few years back. Despite this startling revelation, Arvind held on to the hope of her return.

Speaking to BBC Hindi, Arvind sketched out their life together. They had been married since 2007, and were parents to a teenage daughter and a younger son. Both children are currently attending school.

Anju was employed as a data entry operator in a local firm. She had completed education up to the 10th grade while Arvind had furthered his studies up to the 12th grade. Throughout their marriage, Arvind steered clear of prying into Anju’s personal life, including her mobile phone, in the belief that trust was paramount in their relationship.
