Indian Government Stops Mother Teresa Charity’s Funding

India has once again shown its fascist nature to the world and this time at its target is the most vulnerable ones. Modi-led Indian government suspended the foreign funding license of Nobel laureate Mother Teresa’s Christian Missionaries of Charity (MoC) on the very day of Christmas.

The organization runs several schools, shelters, and hospitals for poor children and the homeless in Bengal and other states of the country. Most of the charity’s funding comes from foreign sources. The suspension of the license has nearly crippled Mother Teresa’s Charity.

The government’s reckless decision has put twenty-two thousand employees out of jobs whereas millions of patients have been deprived of medicine and food.

Missionaries of Charity is an international Christian organization that was established in Kolkata by Mother Teresa in 1950. She devoted her whole life to the city’s slums and poor children. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for her selfless service to humanity.

A statement from the Interior Ministry said, “Missionaries of Charity’s license renewal application was rejected because it does not meet the renewal requirements.”

Mother Teresa’s Charity is an organized Catholic organization and thousands of children and the poor seek refuge in its various centers. The organization has from time to time been accused by right-wing Hindu organizations of converting poor children to Christianity and converting them to Islam.

Indian government claims that some “negative information” was received about the company based on which the application for renewal of funding license was rejected.

Reacting to the decision, Father Dominic Gomez, a Christian religious leader in Kolkata, said the government gave the country’s poorest people a merciless Christmas present.

“Brothers and sisters working in Missionaries of Charity are usually the only support for leprosy patients, people one even dares to go near, and poor children from impoverished castes,” he said.
