Gujranwala YouTuber Khan Ali-Harassment

Gujranwala YouTuber Khan Ali arrested for harassing women in ‘prank’ videos

Gujranwala YouTuber Khan Ali has been arrested by the city police for his supposedly prank videos in which he can be seen harassing women.

The arrest came after one of his video clips went viral on Twitter in which he is asking a woman and her daughter to take dupatta.

“This man has been harassing Pakistani women on roads and public places, for not wearing a head scarf. He has been doing it for months and then he posts their videos on internet without their knowledge or consent. He is doing this to enforce Islam,” Twitter user Sadaf Alvi posted on Wednesday.

In a following tweet, Alvi also tagged Amna Baig, a sub-divisional police officer in Islamabad, to arrest the YouTuber.

“His videos of harassing women have been on internet for months but this person is still free to harass more women and post their videos on the internet. Is this not a crime? Who will identify him and arrest him and protect Pakistani women? @amnaappi can you help?” Alvi tweeted.

The Gujranwala police announced the YouTuber’s arrest on Thursday.

“Accused arrested for humiliating women on the pretext of prank video. Case registered. Protecting the dignity of the people is the first priority,” the official Twitter account of CPO Gujranwala said.

The Punjab police also announced Ali’s arrest in a tweet: “Freedom of expression or entertainment is not about violating the rights of others. Remember! The law protects the rights of every citizen.”

Azhar Mashwani, the digital media focal person to the Punjab chief minister, shared a video that shows Ali handcuffed in a police station and confessing to his mistake.

YouTuber Khan Ali has more than 323,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and his videos have attracted over 43 million views so far.

He regularly published videos in which he can be seen harassing people, especially women. He has recently posted two videos on his channel in which he is asking women walking on the road to take dupatta and cover themselves.
