A man slapped French President Emmanuel Macron across the face on Tuesday, a video circulating on social media shows.
The 43-year-old president was slapped while he was on an official visit to Tain-l’Hermitage, a commune outside the city of Valence.
The video shows the president walk towards a barrier to meet visitors. As soon as he shook the hands of the first person, he slapped Macron in the face.
The officers accompanying the president quickly intervened and pulled the man to the ground and moved the president away from him. French media has reported that two men have been arrested related to the incident.
The incident has been condemned by French politicians.
