Britney Spears Accuses Father Of Conservatorship Abuse

The Grammy winner pop-star, Britney Spears broke into tears while accusing her father of conservatorship abuse in court. During a hearing on July 14, Britney pleaded with a judge to make changes in her conservatorship.

The singer who spoke in court via phone on Wednesday sought to terminate her father’s control over her estate and personal life.

“I’m here to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse. I want him investigated. This conservatorship has allowed my dad to ruin my life,” said Britney.

Britney’s father, James Spears, was assigned as his daughter’s conservatorship since 2008 when Britney suffered a mental breakdown. He and his team have vehemently denied accusations that he has repeatedly abused his position, saying that he only has his daughter’s ‘best interest’ at heart.

According to the reports, Britney’s mother Lynne Spears had filed a petition to allow her daughter to hire her own private counsel on July 6.

During the court hearing, a judge approved Britney’s request to choose and hire her own attorney. She has been represented by court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham since her conservatorship began 13 years ago. Britney asked the judge for permission to hire former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart as her private attorney.

Spear’s personal conservator, Jodi Montgomery told the court that the pop star’s father has used more than $2 million of his daughter’s money to defend himself in the case to maintain conservator of her estate.

It is no secret that Britney has wished her father out of her life for years now. Her father James Spears, on the other hand, says that he wants the conservatorship to ‘reflect her wishes.’

The 39-years-old star told the court that she was ‘extremely scared’ of her father. She also alleged that every part of her life has been controlled, down to her diet, and that she worked 70 hours a week.

“That’s more than a regular job,” she testified. “Their goal was to make me feel crazy and I’m not and that’s not OK.”
