After India’s captain, Virat Kohli reprimanded those who trolled Mohammed Shami, the only Muslim cricketer in India’s T20 World Cup squad, his wife Anushka Sharma and infant daughter Vamika are receiving rape threats from Hindu extremists.
Skipper Kohli had fully supported the fast-bowler Shami after he was subjected to Islamophobic abuse on social media following India’s T20 World Cup cricket defeat against Pakistan. Virat had said that attacking someone on the basis of religion is “pathetic and spineless.”
“This is the lowest level of humanity. Nothing can be more frustrating than attacking someone on the basis of religion. I never thought of discrimination on the basis of religion. Religion is a very sacred and personal thing,” Virat had stated.
Virat’s remarks backfired when instead of appreciating him for his supportive act, keyboard warriors associated with Hindutva started abusing Kohli and his family. His actress wife Anushka Shama and even the 10-month-old daughter of the Indian captain are being targeted with stomach-churning rape threats.
On Twitter, the hashtag #ChupRehBh***Virat Kohli is among the top trends in India. Trollers are also threatening to post Vamika’s photos on social media.
In another moronic act, a right-wing Hindu from South India threatened Anuskha and her daughter Vamika with rape through his Twitter id. But as soon as his tweet screenshot went viral, he changed his profile pic and bio and started pretending to be Pakistani.

Bollywood movie star Anushka Sharma is also being bashed by angry Indians who are sharing her photos with obscene comments. The actress recently appealed not to burn firecrackers during Diwali for the sake of the environment.
Moreover, many Indians are accusing Kohli of playing up “Pakistani propaganda” and are linking the criticism of Mohammad Shami to Pakistan’s ISI. Many are calling him out for not speaking for “persecution of Hindus” in Kashmir and Bangladesh.
“Virat Kohli could have shown a spine by acknowledging that the Shami Controversy was baseless with origins in ISI HQ. But he succumbed to the allure of fitting in with liberals. Such a coward,” a user wrote on Twitter.
