Olivia Breen is a double Paralympic world champion for United Kingdom. Recently her shorts became a controversy for the media when a sporting official said that her shorts were too short and inappropriate.
Olivia, who has won a Bronze medal at the London 2012 Paralympics and a gold medal at the 2017 IPC World Championships, responded with the fact that she has been wearing similar style shorts since a decade or so, and that has never been an issue of discussion before.
Olivia reflected her discomfort about this issue by tweeting on her twitter account, in which she mentioned that women should not be made to feel self conscious about what they are wearing when competing.
It was all over the twitter trends, and many tweets were pouring in regarding this non-issue-but-issue. One tweet said “we should be celebrating women’s sporting excellence, not limiting them to the size of their knickers”
Olivia, shared one of her image on social media in which she was wearing the outfit she was criticised for, and also thanked her fans, for supporting her any way.
She told media, that athletes more often choose their attire according to their comfort, and something which is “as light as possible”, especially in the scorching heat of the summer season.
She expressed her disappointment over the reaction on her shorts, as it is very heartbreaking for a sports person when they are not appreciated for the efforts they are putting in, rather are being criticised for what they are wearing. But, Olivia, confidently aims to wear similar style shorts for her upcoming sports events.
