Emirati Man ordered to pay Over Rs. 800,000 For Hurting Her Feelings

In a recent bizarre incident, a young man in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been ordered to pay a woman Dh20,000 (Rs. 8,46,766) in compensation for hurting the feelings of a woman via text messages.

The incident took place in Al Ain city of UAE where the city’s Court of First Instance ordered the youth to pay for his insensitive texts in terms of cash.

As per the local media reports, a lawsuit was filed by a woman against the culprit in the first instance court. The young woman demanded the defendant to pay her Dh100,000 originally as compensation for the text messages he sent.

According to the plaintiff, the man accused her of having a relationship with many men in a series of text messages. He also blamed her for sending him her pictures with the aim of seducing him.

A criminal judgment had been issued against the accused which stipulated a fine. After the verdict, the woman asked the court for compensation for all damages she suffered due to the man’s inappropriate behavior with her.

On contrary to the woman’s claims, the accused said in court that the woman wanted to negotiate the amount of Rs 1.6 million she owed him and pleaded with the court to reject the case. He also mentioned that a verdict was issued in this regard requesting the amount must be returned to him.

The Al Ain Court of First Instance, however, convicted the man in the criminal case for insulting the woman, Khaleej Times reported.

The decision from the court said that the incident inflicted moral damage, hurting the woman’s feelings and her reputation. It ordered the man to pay her an amount of Dh20,000 in addition to legal fees and charges.

Previously, The Al Ain Court of Appeal had upheld a judgment by the Court of First Instance, in which a man was ordered to pay a fine of Dh10,000 for sending an insulting voice recording to another man.
