Manisha Rupita, a resident of Sindh, has passed the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) exam, becoming the first Hindu DSP in the country. The 26-year-old, who hails from Jacobabad district of Sindh province, appeared in combined competitive examinations of Sindh which were held in 2019.
Rupita stood at 16th number on a merit list of 152 successful candidates announced by the Sindh Public Service Commission on April 13.
Due to her higher place on the merit list, Manisha has been appointed as a DSP in Police Department. It is for the first time in the history of Sindh police that a Hindu woman will join the force as a high-rank officer.
I had to work harder than others to pass this exam because I didn’t know much about all the other sciences, including general knowledge. Sometimes it would happen that I would spend the whole day studying.
Rupita holds a doctorate in Physiotherapy and had shifted to Karachi from her hometown some a decade ago along with her family.
Manisha has preferred to leave the medical department and become a police officer, saying that she wanted to do something unique since childhood.
My family wanted me to do MBBS but when that didn’t pan out I thought of going for DPD because that too is in the field of medicine.
Manisha Rupita, who has a special interest in literature and poetry, is very excited to serve as a DSP.
Before Manisha, Pushpa Kumari from the Umerkot district of Sindh had cleared the exams to become the first Hindu assistant sub-inspector in Sindh police.
