Pooja Bhatt Thinks Pakistani Women Are “Real Begums”

Bollywood actor and director, Pooja Bhatt, was all praises for Pakistani women, calling them the real begums, a reference to her latest web series.

In response to the positive reviews from Pakistani viewers for her feminist web series, Bombay Baigums, Bhatt took to Twitter to thank her supporters.

That was when she called to the hosts of ‘Aurat Card’ as real begums.

“These are the real begums,” said Pooja, referring to Reema Omer, Benazir Shah, Mehmal Sarfraz, and Natasha.

The appreciation came in response to Reema’s tweet on Monday, in which the actress revealed how a scene of the web series on sexual harassment moved her into tears.

“Pooja Bhatt’s final speech in Bombay Begums about women’s solidarity and holding sexual predators to account had Mehmal and me in tears,” Reema had said in her post.

Responding to her tweet, Pooja thanked her for their review and said she loved it.

Designer Deepak Perwani also praised Bhatt’s role saying he had tears watching her performance in the web series.

Bombay Begums was released on March 8, international women’s day. This is feminist series, starring Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash.

The story revolves around five women from different walks of life, referred to as begums in the title, living in Mumbai. It recreates their struggles through loveless marriages, boardroom politics, teenage heartbreaks, infidelity, and gender power play.

The series also fell into controversy for showing minors having cocaine and has received a notice from an Indian child rights organization.
