Kasur district of Punjab remains in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. This time, there is a case of a so-called mentally unstable man who allegedly raped six minor girls, aged between 10 and 12 years, in one month.
The suspect lured young girls by different tactics and allegedly raped them in District Kasur’s Sarai Mughal locality in Pattoki Tehsil.
Scores of villagers of Sarai Mughal staged a protest demonstration on Friday against the criminal negligence of the police. According to villagers, the police failed to arrest the culprit despite the availability of the CCTV footage. While the protest was in progress, DPO Imran Kishwar reached the spot and assured the protesters of justice.
The suspect confesses to the crime
However, the suspect was arrested following public outcry on Saturday, following which, a case was registered against him. The culprit, named Yasin, underwent a DNA test. The samples have been sent to Punjab Forensic Laboratories.
Meanwhile, the medical report did not confirm the rape with two girls who were recently abducted. He said he had freed the girls in the way.
The culprit, however, confessed to having raped three minors earlier this month. Police said they had lodged four more cases of child molestation in light of his confession statement.
According to police, the culprit is a drug-addict and is told to be mentally unstable by his family. A medical board has been constituted to ascertain the claims.
Kasur and the long history of child abuse
Kasur has been notorious for such incidents. Years ago, hundreds of children at Hussain Khanwala village were abused and filmed for blackmailing. In 2018, eight girls including seven-year-old Zainab were raped and murdered before people finally took to the streets to get the murderer arrested. Later, four minor boys were raped and killed in Chunian last year.
These cases of child abuse had long been ignored by local police. Word was that the influential people ran an organized business of child pornography in the district. The police and local authorities and reacted after a strong reaction from the public.
