Iran’s ‘Zombie Angelina Jolie’ Released From Jail After 15 Months

Iran’s social media influencer known as the ‘Zombie Angelina Jolie’ has been released from jail on bail after her sentence was cut short thanks to a national and foreign campaign demanding her release.

Fatemeh Khishvand, who goes by the name, Sahar Tabar, is an Instagram celebrity famous for creating a viral ‘zombie Angelina Jolie’ make-up look. She was sentenced to 10 years for obscenity and blasphemy via her viral make-up look.

The Tehran-based Instagramer has now been released after spending 15 months behind bars. The hardliners had reported her foul make-up look, prompting authorities to push corruption of young people and disrespect for Islamic values charges against her.

When she asserted that the look was photoshopped and not a consequence of plastic surgery, she was released despite the earlier 10-year sentence against her.

Citing Sahar’s lawyer Saied Dehgan’s comments, The Sun wrote:

“A 19-year-old Iranian, who shot to media fame for her ‘zombie Angelina Jolie’-like looks, has reportedly been released from jail on bail after serving 15 months in prison. Several days ago, she was sentenced to 10 years in jail for her ‘obscenity’ and blasphemy, including comments allegedly insulting the hijab, according to the Iran Human Rights News Agency.”

She admitted that although she had some surgery such as a nose job, lip fillers, and liposuction, the zombie Angelina Jolie look is a photoshopped wonder.

“This is Photoshop and makeup. Every time I publish a photo, I paint my face in an increasingly funny way. It is a way of expressing yourself, a kind of art. My fans know that this is not my real face”, the Daily Mail quoted her earlier.

Campaigns in Iran and abroad demanding Sahar’s release even launched a petition calling on Hollywood diva Angela Jolie to weigh in on the court case.
