Sohail Afridi, Ali Amin Gandapur Discuss KP Assembly Dissolution, Political Strategy

PESHAWAR:The details of a key meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur have emerged, with sources claiming that the two PTI leaders discussed the province’s political situation, the federal government’s reported plans and the future of the KP government.

According to sources, Afridi briefed Gandapur on the prevailing political situation and discussed reports that the federal government could impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The sources said the leaders also discussed the possibility that a future decision by the Federal Constitutional Court could pave the way for Ali Amin Gandapur to return as chief minister of the province.

During the meeting, Gandapur reportedly indicated that he would prioritise the party’s interests over the provincial government.

Sources further claimed that if the political situation reached a deadlock, the option of dissolving the KP Assembly could be considered with the approval of the PTI parliamentary party.

Afridi reportedly told Gandapur that he could dissolve the provincial assembly if the parliamentary party authorised such a move.

The meeting also reportedly included discussion about the lack of consultation with PTI founder Imran Khan over the issue of dissolving the assembly.

Sources claimed that Khan had expressed displeasure over Afridi’s performance and his handling of political matters. The issue of Khan’s reported dissatisfaction was also discussed during the meeting.

The meeting took place as PTI’s planned Islamabad long march remained a major point of discussion within the party. Afridi had earlier said that the party’s preparations were complete and that workers could be mobilised on short notice.

The two leaders later appeared together at a press conference in Dera Ismail Khan, where Afridi also spoke about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the Darazinda attack.
