Prisoners Seek Medical Facilities Similar to Imran Khan, FCC Issues Notice to Attorney General

The Federal Constitutional Court has issued a notice to the Attorney General of Pakistan to assist the court in petitions filed by prisoners seeking medical facilities similar to those provided to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The court heard petitions filed by three prisoners seeking similar medical treatment facilities.

The court also issued notices to other respondents in the prisoners’ appeals.

The Federal Constitutional Court observed that the case involves the interpretation of law.

Justice Amir Farooq questioned why treatment should be provided at private hospitals and asked why prisoners could not receive treatment at Polyclinic or PIMS Hospital.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi questioned the purpose of the jail manual if its provisions were not followed.

“The jail manual is very clear, and there should be no unequal treatment,” Justice Najafi observed. He further questioned what purpose the jail manual served if authorities did not follow it.

The Federal Constitutional Court adjourned the hearing until tomorrow.
