Iran Orders IRGC to Prepare for Operations Beyond Its Borders

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been instructed to strengthen its military capabilities so it can carry out offensive operations beyond the country’s borders under a new military doctrine.

Senior IRGC adviser Brigadier General Reza Naqdi said in an interview that the force had been directed to develop the ability to conduct operations on an adversary’s territory whenever required.

Naqdi said Iran’s military strategy was no longer limited to defending its own territory. He stressed that the country should have the capability to take military operations into an adversary’s territory if necessary.

He described the ability to operate beyond Iran’s borders as a key element of the country’s emerging offensive military doctrine.

The senior IRGC adviser said the force had been instructed to build the necessary capabilities so they could be deployed whenever the situation demands.

Naqdi also claimed that the United States has a war budget around 100 times larger than Iran’s defence budget, but said Iran had succeeded in thwarting what he described as all 14 objectives of its adversary.

The remarks signal a potential shift in Iran’s military posture, with greater emphasis on developing the capability to conduct offensive operations outside the country
