Web Desk ; Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has called on national team coach and selector Aqib Javed to take responsibility for the team’s poor performances, saying he should step down if he cannot bring about an improvement.
Speaking to a British newspaper, Azhar criticised the decisions made in Pakistan cricket over the past three years and urged Aqib to first assess his own role in the team’s struggles.
“Aqib Javed should first take stock of himself. If he cannot improve cricket, then he should step down,” Azhar was quoted as saying.
The former captain also accused Aqib of attempting to shift responsibility for Pakistan’s struggles onto former players, including Sarfaraz Ahmed and Babar Azam.
Azhar raises concerns over Pakistan cricket
Azhar said Pakistan cricket was going through a difficult period and warned that the situation needed to be addressed urgently.
He suggested that there could hardly be a worse time for the national team’s leadership, while also questioning Babar Azam’s future in international cricket.
The former captain said Pakistan cricket was gradually losing public interest and called for corrective measures to restore confidence in the team.
“If the situation is not handled, he will not be able to bring the Toffees back to cricket,” Azhar said, according to the report.
