Houthis Claim to Have Shot Down Saudi F-15 Fighter Jet Over Yemen

Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed that it shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Yemen’s Marib province.

According to BBC Persian, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement posted on X that Yemeni armed forces had downed a Saudi F-15 in the skies over Marib.

Saree claimed that the fighter jet was hit by a locally manufactured air-to-air missile. The claim has not been independently verified.

The Houthi military spokesperson also rejected Saudi Arabia’s claim that the group had attempted to target Makkah. He said Houthi operations target oil facilities and military bases.

The statement came hours after the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone launched from Yemen before it could enter Makkah’s airspace.

The latest claims come as fighting between the Houthis and Yemen’s Saudi-backed government forces has intensified following a renewed escalation in Yemen’s civil war in July.

The Houthis have also announced a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia and claimed attacks on Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.
