ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday renewed its invitation to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to resume negotiations, saying talks could be held at a venue inside Parliament House proposed by the opposition.
The development came during a meeting between National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and PTI Chief Whip Amir Dogar at Parliament House. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry was also the part of meeting.
During the meeting, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq reiterated his offer to mediate between the government and PTI to facilitate dialogue.
Speaking after the meeting, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said negotiations remained the only way to resolve political differences and stressed that the government was committed to dialogue.
“The ball is now in PTI’s court,” Chaudhry said, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had already invited Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan for talks, but no response had yet been received.
He expressed hope that PTI would take the government’s invitation seriously and engage in negotiations to address outstanding political issues.
