The Islamabad High Court on Thursday heard a petition filed by members of the National Dialogue Committee seeking permission to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in jail.
Justice Umer Majeed Malik heard the petition along with objections raised by the court’s Registrar Office.
The petition was filed through senior lawyer Faisal Chaudhry. The petitioners include former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Mahmood Maulvi and Barrister Saif.
During the hearing, Faisal Chaudhry said the Registrar Office had objected to the petition, arguing that a mechanism for jail meetings had already been established by a larger bench.
Justice Malik observed that the court would also ask the petitioners to explain how they were legally entitled to meet the PTI founder.
Faisal Chaudhry told the court that the petitioners were willing to give an undertaking to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and mechanism established by the court.
He further assured the court that they would not speak to the media after meeting Imran Khan.
Justice Malik noted that the larger bench had stated in its order that any future applications of this nature would be heard by the same bench.
The court said it would pass an order on the matter.
