The committee expresses concern over reports of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi being shifted to hospital without informing their families
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the immediate release of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, the provincial assembly speaker and other parliamentarians, describing their detention as illegal.
The demands were made in a statement issued after a meeting of the party’s political committee, which discussed the country’s political situation, the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan and his family, arrests of party leaders and workers, terrorism and growing economic challenges.
The committee expressed serious concern over reports that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, had been shifted to hospital without informing their families. It said the families must be kept informed about their health and provided access to them.
The committee also called for the immediate implementation of Supreme Court orders regarding Imran Khan’s medical treatment, regular health updates to his family and arrangements for family visits. It demanded appropriate medical facilities and family meetings for Bushra Bibi as well.
PTI strongly condemned the arrests of Imran Khan’s sisters and demanded their immediate release, along with permission to meet and visit the party founder.
The statement also raised concerns over the arrests of MNA Adil Bazai and other party leaders and workers, particularly those detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) laws. It demanded the release of all detained party members.
The committee further criticised the re-arrest of individuals after their release under court orders, saying such actions raised serious questions about the rule of law and respect for judicial decisions.
It also condemned raids and alleged vandalism at the homes of former federal minister Omar Ayub Khan, Sher Ali Arbab, Shah Ahmad and other party leaders. The committee called for an end to raids, harassment and arrests targeting party workers and their families.
On security, the PTI committee condemned the rising incidents of terrorism and called for effective measures to protect citizens. It stressed that counterterrorism operations must not be used as a tool for political victimisation and that the fundamental rights of political workers and citizens must be protected.
The committee also expressed concern over rising inflation, petroleum prices and high electricity bills, saying government policies had increased the financial burden on ordinary citizens.
It particularly questioned the price difference in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), claiming that the commodity was being supplied at Rs238 per kilogram but sold to consumers for as much as Rs700 per kilogram. It called on authorities to investigate the price gap and take action against profiteering.
The committee demanded relief in petroleum and electricity prices, a reduction in excessive power bills and measures to make essential commodities, including LPG, affordable.
Reaffirming its political position, PTI said it would continue its struggle for Imran Khan’s release, restoration of democracy, supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law.
The committee also rejected reports of internal divisions within the party, insisting that PTI remained united under Imran Khan’s leadership, ideology and mission.
